In collaboration with the EGGERS Kampfmittelbergung GmbH and the LASER on demand GmbH, LZH is actively developing a laser-based method for efficiently neutralizing explosive ordnance beneath the ocean's surface. To support this endeavor, they have procured a water basin with dimensions measuring 1.8 meters in length by 1.5 meters in width, boasting a water depth of 2 meters. This basin crafted by ELA Container Engineering GmbH, features a generously sized window, allowing for diverse underwater experimentation.
In the scope of the UNLOWDET project, initial rounds of system technology testing will be conducted within the basin at the project partner, Laser on Demand. Subsequently, the first controlled detonation trials are scheduled to occur in October at the Wehrtechnische Dienststelle für Schiffe und Marinewaffen, Maritime Technologie und Forschung.
