In 2003 study of mechanical engineering at the Leibniz Universität Hannover, diploma in engineering, and in 2007 study of biomedical technology, M.Sc. In 2010 PhD in engineering at the Leibniz Universität Hannover about the topic "Laser beam welded hip endoprostheses with adapted stiffness".

From 2003 to 2006, Dr. Gerrit Hohenhoff worked at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. in the Surface Technology Group.

From 2007 to 2010, he was the CEO of the Zentrum für Biomedizintechnik at the Leibniz Universität Hannover, and from 2010 to 2013 CEO of the Zentrums für biomedizinische Technik und Innovation e.V. and Head of the BioRegioN office.

In 2014 and 2015, he worked as a consultant and de facto CEO for the Nephila Silk Innovation GmbH. Since 2015, he has been the owner of Hohenhoff Consulting.

Since 2017, Dr.-Ing. Gerrit Hohenhoff is the Head of the Additive Manufacturing - Polymers and Multi-Materials Group in the Production and Systems Department at the LZH.
