Abstract
The direct detection of gravitational waves is one of the most challenging unsolved problems of experimental astrophysics. Observations of gravitational-wave-signals will provide new information about violent events in our Universe like supernovae explosions or coalescing compact binary systems. Additionally gravitational wave detection will allow a test of general relativity and will help to improve the understanding of the theory of gravitation.
