Job

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is a leading institute in the field of applied laser research. Approximately 250 employees carry out basic and applied research and develop solutions for industry. The Optical Systems Group of our Laser Development Department invites applications for a

Research associate (m/f/d) in the field of additive manufacturing of optical components
Field of specialization: Engineering, applied physics or comparable
(Job-ID: 72231)

Integrated photonics is concerned with the chip-based miniaturization of optical systems - analogous to microelectronics, which has been established for decades. It promises a wide range of applications, from ultra-fast data transmission to high-performance sensors and photonic quantum systems. One of the main challenges of integrated photonics is low-loss light coupling between optical waveguides. One aim of the Optical Systems group is to conduct experimental research into novel, additive manufacturing processes for the production of micro-optical waveguide and coupling elements.

Main tasks:

  • Independent planning and implementation of system technology including programming of suitable software structures for control and data acquisition
  • Design and simulation of micro-optical waveguide and coupling elements
  • Experimental investigations into additive manufacturing
  • Optical and geometric characterization of additively manufactured components
  • Collaboration in the PhoenixD Cluster of Excellence
  • Evaluation, publication and presentation of experimental results
  • Supervision and guidance of research assistants and students

Working environment:

The work in the research group at the LZH offers you an extraordinary environment and the best conditions for a doctorate. We offer:

  • An interdisciplinary and international team consisting of engineers and physicists
  • Direct proximity to various industry and research partners
  • Targeted trainings to promote your individual strengths and to develop core competencies.

Job requirements:

  • A completed technical degree (diploma/master’s) with above-average grades in engineering, applied physics or comparable
  • Practical experience with experimental and scientific work
  • First programming experience
  • Ideally experience in the field of optics and additive manufacturing
  • Ability to work independently
  • Creativity, commitment and goal-orientation
  • Very good English language skills

Employment and remuneration are based upon the civil service collective agreement for Federal States (TV-L; up to ¾ E13 depending on your qualification). The position offers the opportunity to gain a PhD.

Severely disabled applicants with equal qualification will be given particular consideration.

The LZH emphasizes gender equality.
