Abstract
In this article, the laser beam stabilisation at different types of arcs, such as the short, impulse and spray arc and the electronically controlled short arc of the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process, as well as the possibilities of deflection of arc and melt are considered. The process, which requires comparatively low laser beam power, proved robust in handling and, especially in combination with the short arc, led to a significant increase in deposition rate and welding speed. Furthermore, laser beam stabilisation was successfully used to remove pores when joining galvanised steel sheets at high welding speeds.
